E-Learning / Computer-Assisted Course

The e-learning/computer-assisted course is a distance learning program intended to reach potential users of existing training material who may be located in remote areas, and is made possible with the use of innovative and attractive multimedia technology.

The platform supporting the e-learning program is an integrated system especially designed to host multidisciplinary, interactive distance learning activities suitable for different teaching methodologies. This allows us to offer an appropriate learning itinerary corresponding to the needs of students at different levels. In order to reach the widest range of potential trainees, the e-learning platform is structured to be self-sufficient-it is designed to be a complete course offering 100% of lessons online. It is also useful as a supplementary resource for students trained in-class.

The MEDA project offers two different types of e-learning courses. The Course on International Contracts and Dispute Settlement is structured to analyze the complex dynamic of contractual issues from the first phase, drafting successful deals, to the last, managing disputes that may arise. The arbitration course, Scheme for Potential Arbitrators, provides the basic education to deal with arbitral proceedings in both national and international commercial contexts. The course will also give exposure to the leading arbitration institutions engaged in providing services for the resolution of commercial disputes, their rules of procedure, and the conduct of arbitration proceedings. Particular attention will be given to international protocols and conventions for recognition and enforcement of foreign awards, and the circumstances in which such recognition and enforcement may be refused by the courts of a country.

The e-learning classes outline the general structure and components of various international contracts, elaborating the characteristics and provisions of the most widely used contracts for sale, agency, distributorship, franchising, and subcontracting, among others. Mechanisms for dispute resolution are appealingly presented through case simulations ("mock cases").

At the beginning of each module, the course offers a set of learning objectives describing what students can expect to take from the particular module/session. Successful participants will be eligible for a certificate upon completion of the course.

The e-learning courses will be available in several languages: English, French, and Arabic. They will be available both online and on CD-ROM.
