Gilles Blanchi possesses a Bachelor of Laws (Maîtrise), a Bachelor of Political Science (Diplôme de l'I.E.P.), a Graduate Degree in Law from the University of Aix-en-Provence (France), and a Masters of Comparative Law from the University of Illinois (USA).
Gilles Blanchi began his career in Egypt where he worked as Director of the Centre d'Etudes et de Documentation Economique, Juridique et Sociale (CEDEJ), from 1978 to 1982.
In 1982, Mr. Blanchi moved to Italy to co-found the Rome-based intergovernmental organization International Development Law Organization (IDLO), where he remained for 22 years as Deputy Director-General. In addition, Mr. Blanchi was head of the Francophone Department and simultaneously worked on developing the organization's activities in Asia. He was based in Manila as Head of the Asia Regional Training Office (ARTO) from September 1996 to November 2001. During this period, Mr. Blanchi was responsible for conceiving, designing, and implementing courses, seminars, and workshops both at IDLO headquarters in Rome and abroad. He conducted Technical Assistance projects and programs in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cameroon, China, Congo, East Timor, Egypt, Indonesia, India, Korea, Latvia, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Thailand, Vanuatu, and Vietnam, among others. He returned to IDLO Headquarters in 2001, where for the next three years he worked on Strategic Partnerships and Project Development. In this department he conducted promotion and fund-raising, worldwide program design, implementation of technical assistance projects, and training.
After leaving IDLO in July of 2004, Gilles Blanchi served for four months as Senior International Training Expert for the European Commission-financed, UNDP-managed "Programme of Support to Commercial Courts System & State Court Administration of Ukraine."
From January 2005 to April 2006, Mr. Blanchi was Team Leader of Promotion of International Commercial Arbitration and other Alternative Dispute Resolution Techniques in MEDA Countries. He currently works as an independent International Development Consultant.
